Brutalist ceramic wall mirror by Gérard Hofmann from France, dating to the 1960s–1970s, with a 24 cm external frame and a 5 cm central mirror, heavy red glazed ceramic construction, weighing about 1680 g, signed on the unglazed base, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
A striking and very heavy mid-century modern ceramic wall mirror by Gérard Hofmann, signed on the reverse.
This piece features a bold, Brutalist design with deeply stepped, concentric circles. The vibrant, glossy red glaze provides a beautiful contrast against the dark, textured matte bands. The frame dramatically surrounds a small central mirror, reminiscent of the classic oeil de sorcière (witch eye) style that was highly popular in mid-century European decor.
Given the heavy, thick-walled construction and the expressive glazing, this piece is highly characteristic of French studio pottery from the Vallauris region during the 1960s or 1970s, though it will also appeal strongly to collectors of West German Pottery and Fat Lava aesthetics.
