Description from the seller
Antique Military Lot: Pair of Engraved Shell-Casing Vases (Trench Art WWI/WWII) and Collection of Vintage Lighters - 5 Pieces
We offer at auction a fascinating mixed lot that combines the craftsmanship of historic trench-art handiwork with the functional elegance of vintage accessories. The heart of this lot is a rare pair of vases made from artillery shell casings from World War I or World War II.
The Lot Includes (5 Pieces Total):
1. Pair of Engraved Shell-Casing Vases (Trench Art):
These two vases were handmade by soldiers at the front, reusing artillery shell casings (as seen in the WhatsApp Image 2026-06-06 at 12.24.08 (4).jpeg).
Both feature finely beveled top rims and a complex repoussé and engraving decoration on the main body, with floral/botanical motifs and, on the right vase, a star and shamrock symbol.
The bases of the vases are obtained by deftly deforming the base of the shell to create a stable and elegant flute-like structure. The patina is authentic and consistent with age.
2. Vintage Gasoline Lighter, Leatherette Finish:
Compact rectangular lighter with a black textured coating (guilloché style or faux leather), as shown in the WhatsApp Image 2026-06-06 at 12.24.08 (4).jpeg. Classic gasoline operation.
3. Slim Brass Tubular Lighter:
An elegant perpetual lighter or gasoline lighter of cylindrical shape, in polished brass (as in the WhatsApp Image 2026-06-06 at 12.24.08 (4).jpeg). A retro design highly sought after by collectors.
4. Mini-Field Binocular Brass Lighter:
A unique conversation piece: a tiny gasoline lighter hidden inside a brass replica of a binoculars (visible in the WhatsApp Image 2026-06-06 at 12.24.08 (4).jpeg). Its small retaining chain is still present.
This lot represents an exceptional opportunity for militaria collectors, particularly Trench Art, and for enthusiasts of antique lighters and technical curiosities. The artistic quality of the engraving on the shell casings is outstanding.
