A pair of hand-signed crystal glass sculptures by Ladislav Oliva, mid-century modern blue geometric cubes with a deep cobalt internal inclusion, each measuring about 8 × 8 × 8 cm and weighing 2282 g, produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1970s–1980s, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
An highly collectible pair of modernist art glass sculptures, designed by the renowned Czechoslovakian glass master Ladislav Oliva (b. 1933) during the 1970s/1980s. This iconic geometric design, often referred to as "Ice Block" or "Melting Ice," perfectly embodies the Mid-Century Brutalist aesthetic.
Craftsmanship
Each cube is meticulously handcrafted from heavy, high-quality optical crystal, featuring a striking, deep cobalt blue organic inclusion suspended within the core. The sharp, architectural cuts create a mesmerizing play of light and reflection from every angle. Finding a matching, identical pair in this condition is a rare opportunity for serious collectors of post-war European design and Sklo Union art glass.
Details & Condition
- Signature: Both pieces are clearly hand-signed/etched "Oliva" on the base.
- Glass condition: Very good condition. No major cracks or chips. One object has one single, tiny flea bite on the bottom rim of the base, which is minor and almost invisible when the piece is displayed.
- Patina: Minimal, normal light surface sliding scratches on the bottom base, completely consistent with age and authentic vintage handling.
Note on Photography
The first image captures the true clarity and material quality of the crystal. The subsequent images were taken against a white background to better highlight the sculptural form and geometric structure of the pieces.
