Decorative three-masted sailing ship sculpture in natural horn on a wooden base, by A. De Dominicis in Rome, Italy, dating to circa 1950–1960.
Description from the seller
Large handcrafted horn sailing ship on a base – A. De Dominicis Rome – Italy – 20th century
Description
Decorative sculpture depicting an elegant three-masted sailing ship, handmade in multicolored natural horn, mounted on a turned wooden base.
The piece consists of a hull carved from a large section of horn, completed by sails obtained from carefully shaped portions of the same material. The natural tones of the horn—from honey to dark brown to deep black—give the composition a strong dramatic impact and notable aesthetic uniqueness.
The base bears a label from the Roman workshop A. De Dominicis, a historic studio specialized in artistic horn work located on Via E. Filiberto in Rome. Objects of this kind were particularly appreciated between the 1950s and 1970s as refined decorative elements and high-quality souvenirs of Italian craftsmanship.
The ensemble represents an interesting example of Italian artistic craftsmanship made with natural materials.
