Pair of Art Deco Miniature Desk Sculptures / Paperweights - Pierrot & Columbine Figures on Veined Marble Bases - France, ca. 1930

A charming and authentic pair of French Art Deco miniature desk ornaments / paperweights, dating from the interbellum period (ca. 1930).

This beautiful pocket-sized set features two stylized, finely detailed figures depicting the famous theatrical characters of Pierrot and Columbine (or Pierrette) from the traditional Commedia dell'arte. Both figures are captured in a theatrical, lively leaning pose, making them a delightful decorative addition to a classic or modernist workspace.

Rather than large bookends, these are refined miniature desk sculptures, historically used as elegant paperweights to keep documents in place or simply as luxury desk ornaments. The figures are crafted from bronze with an authentic aged patina. They are securely mounted onto thick, square pedestal bases made of luxurious, naturally veined cream and reddish-brown marble. The bases feature smooth, rounded bevels along the top edges, enhancing the high-quality craftsmanship characteristic of 1930s European office accessories.

The underside reveals the original, deep-set assembly screws that hold the figures perfectly in place. A very evocative and nostalgic set that brings period character to an office desk, mantlepiece, or cabinet display.
