A circular blown-glass jewellery box with a cobalt blue interior, richly decorated by hand with fine gold gilt, raised enamel, and glass cabochons, dating from 1900–1910; French origin, 8 cm high, 16 cm wide, 16 cm deep, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Superb and important circular blown crystal jewelry box (or powder box / candy dish) with intense cobalt blue double-glazed blue interior.
The piece features an exceptionally rich ornamental work, entirely handmade:
Gold leafing in fine gold: Important arabesque, scroll and stylized tendril motifs applied in bright and matte gold (relief effect).
Relief enamels: Central decoration on the lid depicting a rosette or geometric cross, finely painted with small white flowers in raised enamel (enamel dots).
Glass cabochons: The box is set on the lid and on the base with multiple colored glass cabochons imitating precious stones (emeralds, rubies, opales) nestled in golden corollas.
The underside of the lid reveals the superb cobalt blue color as well as the enamelwork through translucency. A showroom piece of great visual opulence, attributable to the great Bohemian manufactories (such as Moser or Egermann) or to the Venetian Murano craftsmanship of the late 19th century.
Dimensions:
Diameter: ~15 cm
Exceptional condition.
Condition:
Crystal: Perfect condition. No cracks, no chipping, neither on the body nor on the sealing lip (which is rare for these objects). Normal and healthy wear marks under the base (see photo).
Decoration: Very good state of freshness of the gold and enamels. A very light and minimal wear in the more domed parts of the gold, almost imperceptible, testifying to its authenticity. All cabochons are present.
