Description from the seller
Outsider Art “De Stijl” Constructivist Table Lamp, Amsterdam
A striking Outsider Art table lamp, handmade in Amsterdam by a dedicated De Stijl enthusiast.: a joyous architectural construction of planes, blocks and colours, somewhere between lamp, sculpture and miniature modernist city.
The design is openly inspired by the world of De Stijl: Piet Mondriaan, Gerrit Rietveld, Theo van Doesburg, Bart van der Leck and Vilmos Huszár all seem to be quietly attending the party. Black, white, red, yellow, blue and green elements are arranged in layered rectangular compositions around the shade, stem and base. The result is playful but not random: the lamp is very well made, sturdy, stable and carefully constructed.
A particularly clever detail is the light switch, hidden inside one of the red blocks on the base. It is beautifully integrated into the design, turning a functional element into part of the composition. The top section can be removed easily to change the bulb.
This is a large and charismatic table lamp, with real presence. It would work wonderfully on a pedestal, sideboard, desk or in an out of the box interior, where it can function as both lighting and object. A true one-off piece for anyone with a weakness for De Stijl, architectural fantasy and handmade conviction.
We have no doubt this lamp will find its new owner. For shipping, it will be packed with great care and protection. Pick up is of course possible, as well as buyer arranged shipment.
