Description from the seller

Important and rare Venetian bacile from the 16th century, obtained by repoussé, chasing, and embossing of a single copper plate. Height: 22.3 cm; diameter at the rim: 26.5 cm. Maximum diameter: 28 cm. Weight: 2.900 kg. Decoratively, four bands can be identified. Starting from the bottom there is a repoussé beaded border; followed by two grotesque heads (bulls/devils?); from them floral motifs extend; higher up we find stylized leaves. Finally, in the area below the rim, a decoration of concave ovals (or “Greek key with ovals”). The edge, repoussé outward, creates a raised profile and is dentellated as in other Venetian bacili of the period. The sides show two handles, also made of copper. Splendid patina and excellent state of preservation, only small dents compatible with age wear. Sold with an authenticity certificate from an Emilia-based antique dealer. SHIPPING ONLY TO UE.
