Omega - Genève - 136.0104 - Men - 1980

A WATCH FROM THE TWILIGHT OF OMEGA'S GREAT IN-HOUSE MECHANICAL ERA. Up for auction is a beautiful vintage Omega Genève, reference 136.01.04, in original and unmodified condition. This watch has been in my family for years and is now offered to a new collector who will appreciate its history and honest craftsmanship. Dating to approximately 1980, this Omega belongs to a fascinating chapter in the brand's history. It was produced during the final years of traditional Swiss mechanical watchmaking, just before the Quartz Crisis forever changed the industry. Inside beats a manual-wind Omega movement Caliber 1030 with 17 jewels and a high-beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement has a gorgeous gilt finish. The bridges and plates glow with a warm copper-gold tone that collectors love. The stainless steel case is authentic Omega, and the original silver satin dial features a clean, practical date display at 3 o'clock. The dial lacks the word "Genève", a known factory variation from the late production years that many collectors find even more desirable for its understated character. Omega created the Genève line in honour of the city of Geneva, the spiritual home of fine Swiss watchmaking. Today, these watches are increasingly sought after for their honest construction, timeless looks, and direct link to one of the greatest names in horology. The End of an Era What makes this watch special is its place in history. It represents one of the last generations of mechanical Omegas made before the Swiss industry consolidated and moved away from traditional in-house production. For many collectors, these watches mark the closing years of the classic era of Swiss watchmaking. Condition & practical details Good vintage condition with normal signs of age and careful use accumulated over the decades. The watch is powered by a mechanical manual-wind movement, currently running. As with all vintage watches, it is sold without guarantee of long-term accuracy. Later dark brown leather strap. Please refer carefully to the photographs, which form an integral part of the description. Professional custom packaging, shipped worldwide via UPS with full insurance and tracking.
