Description from the seller
Gianni Pinna Sculptural Table Lamp in Carved Padauk Wood, Italy, 1970s
A striking sculptural table lamp by the Italian artist Gianni Pinna, made in the early 1970s. The lamp has a hand-carved base in padauk wood, with an expressive form: open cut-outs, rounded volumes, incised lines and textured surfaces all worked into one vertical composition.
The design sits beautifully between lighting and sculpture. It has the energy of 1970s Italian modernism, but also something organic and primal in the carving. From each side the lamp changes character: one view is more graphic and open, another more solid and totem-like. The carved openings give the base lightness, while the rich wood gives it depth and warmth.
The padauk wood shows beautiful natural variation in colour, from deep reddish brown to lighter golden-orange tones. These differences are not flaws, but part of the charm of the material and the handmade character of the piece. They make the carved forms even more alive, catching the light differently across the surface.
This lamp is part of a final batch of several examples made in the early 1970s. It comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the artist’s heirs.
Comes with the lampshade which is in good vintage condition.
Dimensions of the base itself:
Height: 45 cm
