Description from the seller
Van Houten – Rare animated advertising chromolithograph with a movable tab – France/Netherlands – early 20th century
Fascinating and rare original advertising chromolithograph from the famous Van Houten house, a historic cocoa producer founded in the Netherlands and famous across Europe from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The object depicts an elegant male figure in period clothing who carries packages of Van Houten cocoa. The peculiarity of this specimen lies in the original movable tab attached to the back, which allows the image to be modified and a hidden promotional message to be revealed, a feature typical of the most refined promotional campaigns of the era.
Created with color chromolithography, it features notable graphic quality and testifies to the artistic taste of early 20th-century European advertising. These objects were distributed as promotional material and today represent authentic testimonies of the history of commercial communication.
The specimen retains the original movable tab and is particularly decorative, ideal for collectors of:
- vintage advertising
- advertising chromolithographs
- Van Houten
- cocoa and chocolate
- postcards and commercial memorabilia
- animated and mechanical paper objects
Dimensions:
Height: approximately 15 cm
Width: approximately 10 cm
Conditions: Generally good overall condition for its age. Normal signs of wear, slight edge wear, and small marks due to storage and use. The movable part is present and functioning. Colors still fresh and well preserved.
Original antique item, not a reprint.
Please inspect the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description.
