Victorian Barley-Twist Solid Wood Pedestal Column – Late 19th Century
A refined Victorian-era display pedestal, crafted from precious solid wood and distinguished by the elegant barley twist work (Barley Twist), one of the most iconic decorative forms of English furniture at the end of the 19th century.
The spiral shaft, expertly carved and turned, imparts movement and a strong aesthetic impact to the whole, while the circular top surface and the solid moulded base ensure stability and practicality.
