Description from the seller
Splendid and rare original monumental poster created by Leonida Edel for the Grande Albergo Ardesio and printed by the Istituto Italiano d’Arti Grafiche in Bergamo in the early years of the twentieth century.
The work represents one of the most fascinating examples of Italian tourist advertising posters of the Liberty era, produced to promote climatic and tourist stays in the Bergamo town of Ardesio. The composition depicts the famous hotel set in the Alpine landscape of the Seriana Valley, accompanied by the elegant female figure typical of Belle Époque aesthetics.
The poster stands out for its exceptional decorative impact, refined illustrative quality, and monumental dimensions, features that make it a work with strong stage presence for both the collector and prestigious interior decoration.
The exemplar is printed in original color lithography and features the typical monumental format of the period, composed of two sheets originally joined and later transferred to canvas. There is an old repair backing, not recent, testimony to the conservational history of the piece.
Conditions
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
The poster presents overall good conditions for a work over a century old, with colors still vivid and great legibility of the image.
Present are:
- normal original restoration folds;
- signs of time and use;
- slight surface waviness;
- minor abrasions and localized wear;
- yellowing and stains mainly along the margins and on the support canvas;
- traces of the old mounting and conservation work;
- some paper losses with visible backing fabric at localized points of the image, not compromising readability or overall aesthetic impact of the poster.
Overall the poster retains an excellent visual and decorative presence, particularly appreciated given the rarity of the subject and the era of realization.
