Description from the seller
IMPORTANT WOODEN CROSS-CRUCIFIX OF THE 17th CENTURY
Magnificent wooden crucified Christ carved, dateable to the 17th century (circa 1600), likely originating from an ecclesiastical context in the Piedmont hills.
The piece immediately impresses with its remarkable stage presence and high level of craftsmanship. The body features intense and realistic modeling, with particular attention to anatomical rendering and facial expression, elements that give the sculpture a strong spiritual and devotional charge.
Of substantial dimensions, about 100 cm in height and 70 cm in width, the Christ presents meticulous and detailed workmanship, superior to what is found in most pieces on the antique market. The crown of thorns, the suffering face, and the slender proportions testify to the hand of an expert sculptor and to the work’s original destination in a prominent religious setting.
The sculpture preserves the authentic charm of the time, with natural signs of antiquity, wear, and patina that attest to its long history and enhance its collectible value.
An object of great visual impact, ideal for important religious art collections or as a prestigious decorative element in historic residences, characterful homes, professional studios, or contemporary spaces where one wishes to insert a work of strong historical and artistic value.
Rare specimen and difficult to source on the market, endowed with a monumental presence and undeniable historical charm.
Era: 17th century (circa 1600)
Material: carved wood
Provenance: hillside Piedmont area, probable ecclesiastical provenance
Dimensions: height 100 cm, width 70 cm
Conditions: good conservational conditions relative to age, with natural signs of time, minor cracks and wear consistent with the antiquity of the work.
