Description from the seller
Pair of porcelain cherubs in the Italian Capodimonte style – Neapolitan school – N coronata mark – 20th century
Description
Elegant pair of glossy white porcelain statues belonging to the Neapolitan manufactory tradition in Capodimonte style, both distinguished by the N coronata mark painted under the base.
The lot comprises two different depictions of cherubs:
- a refined musical angel playing a golden trumpet, embellished with rich solid gold decorations applied to the robe, the base and ornament elements;
- a cherub with fluttering drapery, depicted as observing a butterfly, supported by a richly molded Rocaille base.
Both works display meticulous modeling of faces, wings and drapery, characteristic of Neapolitan artistic production from the second half of the 20th century inspired by the famous Capodimonte models.
It is important to note that the N coronata mark identifies the Capodimonte manufacturing tradition but has been used by numerous Neapolitan manufactories in the 20th century; therefore the attribution refers to the Neapolitan school in Capodimonte style.
The gilding is done by hand and gives particular elegance to the angelic figure, while the second cherub stands out for the finely carved Rocaille base and the dynamic composition.
Both objects are particularly suitable for a collection of Italian porcelains or as high-quality decorative elements.

Cherub statues are one of the most iconic subjects of Neapolitan production inspired by the historic Capodimonte tradition. During the 20th century, numerous workshops in the Naples area reinterpreted 18th-century models, creating figures richly modeled and embellished with gold decorations, now highly sought after by enthusiasts of Italian porcelain.
