Refined Antique Silver and Guilloché Enamel Cigarette Case with Heather Motif - 76 g
Lot Description
Splendid vintage cigarette case (also usable as an elegant business card holder or pocket trinket box), a true masterpiece of high jewelry craftsmanship and artistic handiwork.
The front of the piece features a magnificent white ivory-like guilloché enamel decoration with a finely radiant and geometrically under-saturated finish. Above the guilloché base is hand-painted with extraordinary precision a delicate botanical motif depicting sprigs of heather in bloom, in shades of pink, purple, and green. The enamel is glossy, intact, and preserves a brilliant luster from a bygone era.
The back and the edges are made of solid silver, showing a beautiful natural patina of age. The interior is entirely and richly gilded with mercurial gold (vermeil) and still retains its original ochre cigarette retainers. On the inner edge are clearly visible the silver hallmarks (including the 935 fineness, indicating purity higher than classic sterling silver 925), the city/assay mark, and the silversmith's mark "BC" enclosed in an oval pomegranate cartouche.
A high-class collector’s piece, perfect for connoisseurs of vintage snuff boxes, enamel objects, or fine silver.
