Description from the seller
Davies & Arnold – English Grande Legumiera with Lid in Silver Plate (EPNS) – ca. 1900–1930
Elegant English legumiera with lid realized by Davies & Arnold in silver plated (EPNS), dating to the early decades of the 20th century, circa 1900–1930.
This refined tablepiece stands out for its elegant oval shape, enhanced by a delicate beaded decoration along the edge, typical of the finest English production of the era. The harmonious proportions, the build quality, and the elegance of the finishes make it an excellent example of serving silverware destined for the most prestigious tables.
Particularly interesting is the distinctive swiveling handle, which allows the lid to be locked to the base. The mechanism works perfectly and still allows the proper closing of the legumiera today, testifying to the quality of the original craftsmanship.
The legumiera bears the marks D&A, EPNS, 60, 32 and 10, attributable to Davies & Arnold.
Dimensions
Length: 32 cm
Width: 25 cm
Total height with handle: 15 cm
Conditions
The exterior is in excellent condition for its age, retaining a pleasant original luster. Only two or three minimal points show slight loss of plating and some light surface marks compatible with normal use and the passage of time.
The lid interior is well preserved. The area showing the most wear is the inner supporting tray, where scratches, signs of use, and a more evident loss of plating due to years of use are visible, as clearly shown in the photographs.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen, with notable decorative and collectible impact, particularly appreciated for the elegance of the line, the generous dimensions, and the rare closing mechanism still functioning perfectly.
Magnificent example of early 20th-century English table silver, ideal for collectors of plated silver, vintage tableware, and British decorative arts.
