Description from the seller

Radha in a copper alloy cast by lost-wax and chiseled.
The goddess Radha, wife of Krishna and goddess of kindness and love.
She is depicted jeweled, standing, with wide hips and a slender waist; her figure is sensuous and sinuous, her large breasts exposed, her hair combed back and gathered at the rear. A small silver moon-shaped ornament on the forehead and above it a small gold tilak.
The love story between Radha and Krishna is a prominent theme in Indian art and literature, serving as the model of allegorical love to which everyone should aspire. Radha was Krishna’s favorite gopi (cowherd girl), and their love, a symbol of ecstasy between God and the human soul, has often been interpreted as the hope of the union between humanity and the divine.
A large and weighty bronze, with classical iconography, refined forging and very well chiseled.
Good condition, beautiful patina, height 26 cm.
South India, second half of the 19th century.
Insured shipping.
