Description from the seller

Andromeda is, in the early 20th century, manufactured by the Paridon Brothers. The nude is elegant, harmonious, and smoothly shaped, without rough or realistic imperfections. The material paridur is a composite material that mainly consists of a reinforced kind of plaster, mixed with resins or clay. As a result, the material was less brittle and more suitable for detailed sculpture known as Paridur, which is decorated in a green color for a bronze-like effect. A statue of a naked young woman depicting Andromeda. It is made after the original Andromeda by Joseph Félon (1818-1896). The sculpture is stamped with J. Felon and no. 541. Made by the Paridon Brothers at the beginning of the 20th century. The statue is 37 cm high.

Around 1905 the brothers Pieter (1876), Peter (1885) and Hendrik Van Paridon (1887) opened a workshop in Amsterdam on Rozenstraat in the Jordaan. The brothers worked with sculptors such as Jan Verdonk from Den Bosch, who designed works in the Toorop style. Many classical statues were made, often after antique examples. After 1920 the Paridons mainly produced Christian religious figures and stopped making classical and modern art. This statue, therefore, predates 1920.
