Old ankle brace. - Konga. - Mongo/Nkundo - DR Congo

This bronze anklet named konga, worn by high-ranking women, was also used as a medium of exchange. They were cast in flat wooden molds, carved with characteristic decorative elements - crests and grooves. The bronze plate was then rounded on a cylindrical wooden form and fitted to the recipient's anklet.

The patina and wear of this specimen indicate great antiquity.
