Description from the seller
Art Deco Ear Clips with Onyx and Marcasites in Silver
France or Germany, circa 1925–1935
An exceptionally elegant pair of Art Deco ear clips of remarkable architectural impact. The strictly geometric design unites the characteristic language of the Roaring Twenties with the timeless refinement of luxurious silver jewelry.
The finely crafted silver settings are richly encrusted with sparkling marcasites and frame deep-black onyx elements, whose velvety surface forms a pleasing contrast to the cool sheen of the silver. The composition recalls the monumental architecture of Art Deco – the vertical lines of New York skyscrapers just as much as the elegant modernity of the Paris Exposition of 1925.
Especially appealing is the balanced proportion of the ear clips: above a round onyx cabochon unfolds a strictly segmented decor of marcasites, which finds its harmonious finish in a long rectangular onyx pendant. The design lends the pieces an extraordinary presence without losing their elegance.
The backs reveal the original craftsmanship of the era and document the careful production of these high-quality jewelry works. The condition is overall very appealing and preserves the authentic aura of a jewelry design from the heyday of Art Deco.
A stylistically particularly successful collector’s object for lovers of classic Art Deco jewelry art, as well as a striking jewelry ensemble with unmistakable character.
Material: Silver, marcasites, onyx
Era: Art Deco, circa 1925–1935
Origin: presumably France or Germany
Condition: good by-age-appropriate condition with authentic patina
Special feature: exceptionally architectural Art Deco design with a pronounced black-silver contrast
“Jewelry from an era when elegance did not have to be loud – but spoke through form, proportions, and flawless craftsmanship.”
