Description from the seller

Superb numbered edition 321 on Chiffon Mandeure and illustrated with 12 gouache drawings by Georges Braque, including 9 plates out of text, 2 folding plates and a tailpiece -

Louis JOUVET had entrusted this project to Georges BRAQUE in 1950, but he died before seeing it realized, which delayed the book's edition.

This 1970 edition illustrated by Georges Braque combines the classical text with a modern artistic interpretation that highlights the symbolic strength of the work -

The plot unfolds in Orgon's house, a well-to-do bourgeois who has placed all his trust in Tartuffe, a man he believes pious, virtuous and exemplary, when in reality he is only a sly impostor using religious language to satisfy his personal ambition -

Despite repeated warnings from his family and close friends, Orgon refuses to see the truth and grants Tartuffe increasing influence over his property, his decisions and even the future of his daughter Marianne, whom he wishes to marry to this false devout man -

Molière / Georges Braque - Le Tartuffe - 1970 - Maurice Gonon -
180 Pages.

Very good condition of the binding, the work in loose-leaf form in its original printed leaf-sleeve, under genuine "Grass-cloth" inner case original in full brown cloth, slight signs of use, smooth spine, gilded titling -

Very good interior condition, the work enriched with 12 gouache drawings by Georges Braque, including 9 out-of-text plates, 2 double plates and a tailpiece, edition limited to 370 copies, one of 195 on Chiffon Mandeure, No.321, with a set of 4 additional plates, interior rather fresh -
