Description from the seller
Antique Victorian Silvered Biscuit Jar in Silver Plate - Walker & Hall, Sheffield (England) - Circa 1885-1895
Refined and elegant antique English biscuit barrel in late Victorian style, entirely crafted in high-quality silver-plated metal (silver plate / electroplate). The piece was produced by the renowned Sheffield manufacturer Walker & Hall, in England, one of the historical and most prestigious names in British silverware of the 19th century. The biscuit barrel is distinguished by its classic cylindrical body finely engraved with a burin, decorated with a upper band of garlands of leaves and geometric-vegetal motifs. In the center stands a crest or heraldic shield in relief, deliberately left smooth, traditionally intended to host the initials of the owning family.
The body rests stably on a circular integrated stand with a molded edge, supported underneath by three splendid ball feet that lift the entire structure, giving it momentum and elegance. The upper lid, hinged to swing open, is internally finished with a mirrored surface and is provided with a central knob for opening.
On the outer bottom are clearly impressed factory marks:
The famous pennant flag mark with the letters W&H inscribed, a historic symbol of Walker & Hall's guarantee.
The full inscription "WALKER & HALL / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND".
The production catalog serial/model number (14137).
The separate numeric/date letter for internal dating (64), typical of the manufacturer’s dating system used around the late 19th and early 20th century.
A collectible piece with great historical charm, ideal to embellish a tea table or as a vintage decorative accessory.
