Careful shipment with tracking and insurance.

The Bootleggers is an unusually dramatic painting for Hopper. It takes place at dusk and, in the foreground, a motorboat sails along the riverbank or a shore stretch. Three men occupy the boat; with their backs to the viewer, they turn their heads in unison toward a large Victorian house overlooking the shore. There, a solitary figure returns their gaze, establishing contact. A mood of somber anticipation pervades the scene and, even without knowing the title, the viewer feels that something illicit is about to happen.

His mastery of light and geometric composition brings him closer to great masters such as René Magritte, David Hockney, Pablo Picasso, or Claude Monet. In Chop Suey, one finds the same search for silence and balance as in Joan Miró, Henri Matisse, or Marc Chagall, as well as a taste for spatial construction evoking Piet Mondrian and Giorgio de Chirico.

Hopper’s legacy also resounds in contemporary artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy, Murakami, or Jeff Koons, who, each in their own way, question the relationship between modernity, popular culture, and individual emotion.

A timeless and introspective work, at the crossroads of poetic realism and existential reflection — a bridge between classical painting and modern sensibility.
