Antique wooden food pantry from northern Italy (Valtellina), estimated 1910–1920, with a vertical sliding front door; dimensions 43.5 × 35.5 × 21.5 cm, brown, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Ancient container, rural wooden food pantry with a vertical sliding front, used as a bread bin or small domestic pantry. Northern Italy, late 19th - early 20th century.
The object features a characteristic house-shaped structure with a slanted roof, resting on four original turned feet. The closure consists of a front vertical sliding door, completely removable via the original central knob, inserted into side guides carved into the structure.
The piece was intended for the preservation of dry foods inside rural kitchens of Northern Italy, such as bread, bakery products or other household stores, keeping them protected from dust and small animals.
Particularly interesting is the entirely handcrafted workmanship, visible in the manually assembled boards, in the original joints and in the patina developed by the wood over more than a century of use.
The item preserves a strong ethnographic character and testifies to the traditions of Italian peasant domestic life between the 1800s and 1900s. The condition is good and consistent with its age. Normal signs of use, superficial wear, attest to authenticity and originality.
The object today represents an interesting decorative element for rustic interiors, country houses, mountain chalets, agritourisms or collections dedicated to material culture and antique domestic utensils.
