Geometric decorative wooden box with mother-of-pearl inlays, dating to 1990–2000, made in France, in good used condition, 7 cm high, 18 cm wide and 12 cm deep.
Description from the seller
It is a box that very well embodies that geometric, elegant, and disciplined spirit of Art Deco reinterpreted in the second half of the 20th century, when the workshops were still producing pieces with a refined modernist language but with a warmer, more domestic finish.
The lid is built like a small architectural mosaic: a grid of dark rhombuses, perfectly outlined, crossing to form a rhythmic and almost hypnotic pattern. Inside each rhombus, the reddish wood adds depth and a vibrant contrast, as if each module were a different window within the composition. At the intersections, the flashes of mother-of-pearl inlay introduce an iridescent sparkle, subtle but decisive, that touch of contained luxury so characteristic of late Art Deco.
The body of the box, with clean lines and balanced proportions, lets the lid take center stage. The wood, polished and smooth, retains its visible grain, which adds an organic counterpoint to the strict geometry of the top design. It is a piece that plays with two languages: geometric precision and artisanal warmth.
Taken together, this box is a decorative object that combines sophistication, detail, and a nod to classical modernity, perfect for a desk, a dresser, or a display cabinet where well-made objects are appreciated.
One of the hinges for restoration.
Certified shipping and good packing.
