A beautiful and rare Tiuk Pengentas from Bali.
The ‘Tiuk Pengentas’ is a knife used for funerary ceremonies. Most Balinese believe in reincarnation and when a deceased person will be cremated, it will be first transported in public with a large procession. Then the priest cuts the fabric cord of the deceased from the body with the ‘Tiuk Pengentas’ which resembles cutting the person loose from earthly life, both physically as mentally.
The nice details which can only been made by a high qualified craftman. The wood used is very special and has healing powers, it is from the roots of the paramao three, which is well known for several healing powers and i have never seen it used in a magical knive.... the state is poor delamination of the paint and some cracks and scratches, pls look at the photos but its original, authentic and old! The patina is amazing!
The dimensions are 54x6x3cm. (on presentation stand 57cm height)
