Description from the seller
Omega Seamaster Memomatic, reference 166.072 from the early 1970s, presents with a 40 mm stainless steel case diameter (excluding crown), a lug-to-lug width of 42.5 mm, and a thickness of 14.5 mm. These proportions give the watch a substantial and modern presence on the wrist, while preserving all the charm of 1970s design.
A Piece of History for Collectors
The Memomatic is a milestone in technical watchmaking: the world’s only automatic alarm clock that allows setting the alarm precisely to the hour and minute. This specimen, serial 31333325 from 1970, houses the in-house Omega 980 movement with 19 jewels, renowned for its robustness. As confirmed by the chronocomparator test, the movement runs perfectly.
The original two-tone dial is a pop-design masterpiece. The rotating gray central section is the heart of the complication: the orange triangle sets the hour and the two orange bars the exact minute. The black rehaut features applied tritium hour markers, which have taken on a beautiful vintage patina, completed by white/black hands and a lively orange seconds hand.
Technical Details and Operation
The case retains its original finishing with signs of age that attest to its authenticity. The crowns are original and signed. The crown at 2 o’clock shows natural slight surface wear consistent with age, testifying to its historical life without compromising perfect functionality.
Crown at 2 o’clock: 1st click activates the alarm; 2nd click unlocks the alarm setting (to be adjusted with the crown at 4 o’clock).
Crown at 4 o’clock: Time setting.
Central pusher: Quick date setting.
Includes vintage leather strap, original Omega buckle, and period box.
