Description from the seller
A sculptural Studio Pottery Bud Vase with Relief Rose by ceramist Paul Van Gompel.
Belgium - Late 20th century
Vintage Belgian studio art pottery hand-thrown and sculpted by the master ceramicist Paul Van Gompel at his renowned workshop 't Hoveke in Meigem, Belgium.
This squat, bulbous bud vase represents an intersection of traditional wheel-thrown technique and meticulous hand-sculpted application. The front facade is dominated by a beautifully detailed, multi-layered 3D floral applique (sprigging technique) resembling a rose blossom, flanked by organic flowing stems. The shoulders are further textured with hand-applied clay prunts and incised concentric rings. The color palette features rich, earthy tones characteristic of Van Gompel's experimental reduction firing methods.
Marked "Handwerk Van Gompel P." on the unglazed bottom.
Height = 12 cm
Diameter = 16 cm
Weight = 880 g
In good condition. Very light traces of age and use.
