Tokoname Ware Nerikomi Matcha Bowl by Nakayasu with Original Wooden Box

Description

This nerikomi matcha bowl was created by Nakayasu, a ceramic artist working in the Tokoname ware tradition.

It was made using the nerikomi technique, in which differently colored clays are layered and shaped together. Rich tones of reddish brown, yellow, green, and black flow naturally across the surface, creating a bold and dynamic pattern.

The exterior features dramatic swirling designs, while the interior reveals delicate flowing lines. The unique marbled appearance evokes geological strata or the cross-section of natural stone, making each viewing angle different and distinctive.

The warm red clay characteristic of Tokoname ware blends beautifully with the contemporary aesthetic of the nerikomi technique. It is suitable both as a tea ceremony utensil and as a fine example of Japanese contemporary ceramic art.

The bowl comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako). A cloth drawstring pouch is also included, although it is believed to have been added by a previous owner at a later date. Its presence suggests that the bowl was carefully treasured and preserved over the years.
