This piece is an African bracelet or bangle made of pure bronze using the lost-wax casting method. Used as barter currency or as prestigious jewelry and a marriage dowry. Origin: Cameroon. Kirdi peoples and family. Horseshoe design with ends curved like horns. Extremely large and heavy piece (dimensions shown in photos). It weighs 1210 g. Women wore them at weddings and ceremonies. Areas with patterns of parallel lines that resemble a cord or braided rope. Small buttons or raised knobs in relief. The motifs like horns carry meaning of protection and status within the ethnicity.
