Description from the seller
Pair of large Neo-Classical carafes, blue turquoise molded glass, 1840-1880
Pair of large table carafes with their original stoppers.
These display pieces are distinguished by a beautiful intense and luminous turquoise blue color, dyed through the mass.
Their design draws from the Neo-Classical decorative repertoire (Louis-Philippe / Second Empire styling), reinterpreting the canons of Antiquity. The body offers careful molding work alternating a top geometric frieze with a Greek-key motif, a central section adorned with oblong medallions in arcades, and a lower frieze of Greek keys. The elongated neck features elegant twisted fluted relief grooves, typical of 19th-century glassmaking know-how.
Each carafe is topped by its original stopper in blown-molded glass with an expanded collar and a faceted crown-shaped head, ornament found at the base of each carafe.
A high-quality production, attributed to the great French or Belgian manufactures or glassworks of the mid-19th century (probably Baccara or Val-Saint-Lambert).
Condition:
• Carafe bodies: Very good overall condition for pieces of this era. No major chips, cracks, or restorations on the glass. A slight veil or natural calcareous deposit is visible inside on the walls (see last photo)
• Stoppers: Both stoppers are present and original. Note small nicks at their base (stoppers shown upside down in the photo).
