Description from the seller

MV Agusta Cagiva River 500

Excellent condition, with fresh tires and serviced

Replaced everything necessary: battery, brake lines, all fluids.
Ready for the season.
Motorcycle efficient and very solid

Registered as a FMI historic motorcycle

Not to be confused with the River 600 which had a multitude of problems.

This redesigned under MV Agusta supervision is a whole different bike.

Only 490 were produced.

Its history, relayed to me by MV Agusta Cagiva Italia
**********************************************

The story of the River is sadly unknown to many, due to the personality-less and underpowered engine of the first 1995 600 cc series and the poor reliability demonstrated over time, ending up in obscurity.

The River 600s were built and marketed from 1995 to 1998
for a total of 1680 motorcycles.

In 1999 Cagiva reintroduced the River
reducing the displacement to 500 cc while optimizing the engine.

In fact the River 500 paradoxically has more horsepower than the 600.

The new version is more dynamic, fast, and reliable, but unfortunately suffers from the bad reputation created by its older sister.

Produced in only 490 units, last production in 2004 although it left the catalog between 2000 and 2001 to make room for the more substantial Cagiva Raptor 650

It is clearly a second series and this is evident from two fundamental factors reported directly on the registration certificate.

The stamping with the MV Agusta designation occurred only in 2000 when Claudio Castiglioni, now the sole owner of Cagiva, decided to change the corporate name from Cagiva to MV Agusta while still keeping the Cagiva Brand.

The second factor is the displacement specified in the certificate under field P.1 indicating 498 cc

This puzzle comes together and tells us that its River 500 is part of the last production run of 2004 that remained unsold and was probably registered only in 2006

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
