Lot of 3 vintage scientific precision instruments from the first half of the 20th century, complete with their original wooden carrying cases.
Description from the seller
Collection Lot of 3 Era-Epoch Scientific Instruments - La Filotecnica Salmoiraghi Milano and Laboratory Instruments (Including 3 Original Wooden Boxes)
Description of the Lot
A fascinating lot consisting of three vintage precision scientific instruments, ideal for industrial antiquities collectors, industry experts, or as exclusive decorative elements for professional studios and libraries. All instruments come with their original, custom wooden carrying cases.
Topographic Telescope Level "La Filotecnica Salmoiraghi" (Milan)
Manufacturer: La Filotecnica - Ing. A. Salmoiraghi - Milan.
Serial Number: 42509 (engraved on the instrument body).
Period: First half of the 20th Century.
Features: Historical geodetic/topographic instrument of exceptional collector value, with original era blue-gray finish and brass components. It includes its original solid wood carrying case, whose lid retains the original paper labels with usage Warnings and collimation diagrams. Also present is the three-screw cal‑base and small vintage accessories.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR BUYERS: Since I am not a sector expert or technician, I do not know in depth how this instrument operates. I therefore invite all potential bidders to observe the numerous detailed photographs carefully to assess the condition of the piece, its integrity, and all single components included in the package.
CONDITION AND DEFECTS (SOLD AS A DISPLAY/RESTORATION OBJECT): For maximum transparency toward bidders, the actual conditions of the Salmoiraghi components are described:
Optics (Front objective): Shows a clean through-threading that crosses the glass, compromising the optical functionality of the sighting.
Optics (Rear eyepiece): Complete with all its original components, including the black adjustment ring and the four brass micrometric screws for centering (visible mounted in photo 1000067512.jpg). The rear optical group is intact and detachable.
Mechanics: A broken brass threaded stud has been snapped cleanly, with the stub partially remaining inside the threaded seat.
Case: The rear brass hinge of the wooden case is desoldered/teared at the central pin, to be fixed to ensure the perfect closure of the lid.
Scientific Instrument Hull (Supposed to be a Spectroscope)
Description: A portable, browned vintage cylindrical instrument, complete with its original light-colored wooden box with a hook lock.
IMPORTANT NOTE (ONLY HULL - WITHOUT OPTICS): The instrument is sold as non-functioning, for restoration or for spare parts only. After inspection, the internal conduit is completely empty: prisms and refraction lenses are missing (clearly shown in the close-up detail photo abdd84a9-b402-4adc-befb-1a316b0dec8e). The external metal hull, the linear light entrance slit, and the original wooden case remain intact.
Pair of Laboratory Glass Tubes with Graduations
Description: Two parallel graduated glass cylinders with brass polished shut-off fittings and taps, historically used for volumetric measurement or gas analysis.
Condition: Intact items, the numerical scale on the glass is crisp and legible. Kept in their original wooden box with internal felt/foam protective supports.
Packing and Shipping Notes (Please Read Carefully)
Packaging quality: A professional and extremely careful packing is guaranteed. Each glass part and the most delicate components will be individually protected and isolated to ensure the lot’s integrity during transport.
Shipping: Fast and fully trackable shipping.
SHIPPING RESTRICTIONS: NO shipments to non-Italian islands (for example: Corsica, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira, etc.). Any bids from foreign island territories will not be fulfilled or will be canceled. Regular shipping guaranteed across Italy (including islands) and Continental Europe.
Notes for the Photo Gallery
Please thoroughly review the rich photo gallery, which is an integral part of the description, with particular attention to macro details of the Salmoiraghi level’s defects and the empty hull of the presumed spectroscope.
