Description from the seller
A small rectangular panel is a leather relief embossed and hand-chased, featuring a surrounding edge with a braided stitching typical of artisanal leatherwork. The scene depicts a group of dancing putti or cherubs set in a natural setting. The style strongly evokes classical bacchanalian motifs or Renaissance and Baroque allegorical scenes, very popular in decorative wares between the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century; they were usually made as decorative elements for the cover of a photo album, the top of a jewelry casket, a writing-case, or the flap of a vintage evening bag in a neo-Renaissance style. The mystery of the back: "Emulsione Cesaris al Malto" The inscription on the back reveals an intriguing history of vintage recycling and upcycling."} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }}
