Italian marble, onyx and alabaster chessboard from the 1970s to 1980s, with 32 wooden pieces, dimensions 33.5 × 33.5 × 2.8 cm.
Description from the seller
Marble, onyx and alabaster chessboard with turned-wood pieces – Italy – 1970s/1980s
Elegant and refined Italian chessboard dating from the 1970s/1980s, made with a precious combination of marble, onyx and natural alabaster, selected materials to create a suggestive chromatic game between ivory, honey, cream and hazelnut tones. Each square features unique veins, shades and transparencies, making every piece one of a kind.
The lot includes all 32 original turned-wood pawns, characterized by a classic and elegant design. The pieces are in excellent condition, practically like new, with a pleasant glossy finish that enhances the contrast between light and dark wood.
This chessboard represents a perfect union of functionality and decoration: in addition to being fully usable for play, it constitutes a refined furnishing element ideal for a study, a library, a living room or a classic yet contemporary environment.
The natural stones used give depth and luminosity to the surface; the veining, inclusions and slight color differences are inherent to the material and attest to its authenticity.
Overall condition is very good. There is a very small nick on one corner, clearly documented in the photographs, along with minor signs of aging consistent with the object's age. These details do not compromise the board’s solidity or functionality and contribute to the authentic charm of a lived-in vintage piece.
The underside is lined with black felt to ensure stability and protect supporting surfaces.
Our interior designer/architect recommends placing this chessboard on a coffee table, a desk, a bookshelf or a sideboard, where it can become an elegant focal point of the room, marrying the game’s charm with the beauty of natural stones.
