Description from the seller
Original parlor set from Gebrüder Thonet (Thonet Brothers), the historic Austrian manufacturer founded by Michael Thonet and continued by his sons.
This ensemble, consisting of two chairs and a small settee, is an emblematic example of Vienna production from the late 19th century, in full late Biedermeier / early Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style.
Key features:
• Brand: The manufactory is clearly attributable to Gebrüder Thonet, which between 1853 and 1900 became the leading European producer of bentwood furniture.
• Technique:
• Frames in steam-bent solid beech, one of the key innovations introduced by Thonet to achieve sinuous and sturdy forms.
• Seats in Vienna straw woven by hand, light yet sturdy.
• Design:
• The two-seater settee features a rich motif of interlaced scrolls on the backrest, a distinctive element of Thonet production in the second half of the 19th century.
• The chairs display the classic continuous backrest and integrated armrests, perfectly balanced in their curvature.
• Aesthetics: Fluid, light forms that unite grace and functionality: the hallmark of Thonet design.
