Description from the seller
Historical Description and Manufacturer
In auction an extraordinary piece of Italian music history: an alto saxophone (E-flat) produced by the renowned firm Agostino Rampone & B. Cazzani & C. in Milan in 1921.
Founded in the 19th century, Rampone & Cazzani represents Italian artisanal excellence in the construction of wind instruments, historically located in Quarna Sotto. This specific example, which has just passed its century of life, testifies to the golden era of the first jazz bands and European dance orchestras.
Technical Details and Condition
Year of production: 1921
Serial Number: 2125 (engraved on the body)
Finish: Original sand-blasted silver-plated finish from the era with artistic engraving on the bell and an era triangular logo on the body. It presents a splendid patina of time.
Operating condition: The instrument is perfectly functional. The pads (leather) and the mechanism respond correctly and the key cups seal without air leaks.
Notes on mechanics: The original mother-of-pearl key inserts have detached due to the natural drying of the old glue, but they are all present and included in the lot, ready to be repositioned by the future buyer.
Era-Original Accessories and Extras (Collector’s Rarity)
The true added value of this lot is the absolute integrity of its original period accessories, almost impossible to find complete after 100 years:
Original 1921 hard case, with green velvet interior, perfectly preserved and structurally solid.
Very rare original wooden reed case, a small masterpiece of musical antiques.
Original silver-plated neck.
Vintage ebony mouthpiece complete with original brass ligature.
A unique opportunity for collectors of historical musical instruments, vintage lovers, or musicians seeking the legendary warm 'dark sound' of the Italian school of the 1920s.
