AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Much less common than their ordinary chondrite sisters, carbonaceous chondrites account for 5% of meteorites that reach Earth. They are characterized by the presence of carbon in their composition—in keeping with their name—usually in the form of organic compounds such as amino acids. In addition, carbonaceous chondrites often contain water or minerals that indicate they have been altered by its presence. With a dark and generally abundant matrix, they are the oldest meteorites known and therefore the oldest material you could ever hold in your hands.

CK meteorites are carbonaceous chondrites with a matrix in dark gray tones, sometimes slightly greenish, with abundant chondrules that can range from type 3 to 6, with an average diameter of 1 mm, i.e., somewhat smaller than CVs and larger than COs (the carbonaceous family with which they are related). They sometimes contain sizeable CAIs. Additionally, some CK members exhibit shock veins that indicate a violent history for their parent body or a history of impact.

Furthermore, the specimen in this lot has a nice shape and size, with numerous raised chondrules on the exterior, something hard to find in this type of carbonaceous chondrites. Ideal for a great collection or museum.

All our meteorites come with an IMCA certificate (International Meteorite Collectors Association), guaranteeing the authenticity of all our meteorites for life. Buy with guarantees.

Best regards and our best wishes.
