Fragment of a Diana bust sculpture in stone (stone cast), from Italy, measuring 15 x 11 x 8 cm and weighing 800 g, in good condition and unsigned.
Description from the seller
Magnificent sculpture representing the bust of Diana in all her uniqueness, in marble powder (stone cast).
Diana is an Italic goddess, mistress of the forests, protector of wild animals and women, who assured painless parts, and dispenser of sovereignty. Often this Roman goddess is associated with Artemis, the Greek goddess of myth, but according to some scholars the fusion of the two figures occurred only at a later time.
According to legend, Diana, a young virgin skilled in hunting, irascible as she was vindictive, loved solitude and was enemy of banquets; she used to roam in isolated places. In the name of Love she had taken a vow of chastity and for this reason she showed herself protective, only toward those who — like Hippolytus and the nymphs who promised to maintain virginity — entrusted themselves to her.
The lot is suitable for enriching luxurious interiors, depandances, rustic houses or mountain lodges.
Adequate shipping of the object with package tracking is guaranteed.
