Description from the seller

Exhibition plaque reproducing the famous work View of the World from 9th Avenue (1976) by Saul Steinberg, originally published as the cover of The New Yorker. The image shows the iconic perspective view from the streets 9th and 10th Avenues in Manhattan, with the New York buildings in the foreground drawn in great detail, the Hudson River in the center, and beyond a schematic and humorous map of the United States where cities and states such as New Jersey, Kansas City, Chicago, Las Vegas or Texas appear compressed and diminished. In the background, a vast Pacific Ocean with barely China, Japan and Russia on the horizon.

The work is an ironic critique of New York provincialism and one of the most recognizable illustrations of the 20th century.

At the bottom appears the exhibition title in bold black typography: SAUL STEINBERG, ARTIST, alongside the name of the institution Fundación Juan March and the dates Madrid, 18 October 2024 — 12 January 2025.
