Unique work belonging to the corrente del Realismo poetico of the Italian twentieth century.
Unique work created between 1948 and 1952, authenticated by the Marino Marini Foundation of Pistoia, with an official certificate dated 11 April 1991, archive number 84. The work is included in the artist’s autograph works archive and is accompanied by original documentation.
The sheet presents a refined male portrait traced with essential black lines and red undertones, revealing Marino Marini’s extraordinary graphic sensibility. The sober, controlled drafting, carried out with light touches on photographic paper, renders a thoughtful and measured face, in which the stroke becomes pure psychological and poetic expression. The paper shows slight undulations due to time, consistent with its age and in overall good condition.
Marino Marini’s graphic activity represents a fundamental component of his plastic and human research, balancing introspection and formal synthesis. In this Portrait, the essential language of the Italian twentieth-century Realismo poetico emerges, where the sign becomes the measure of the soul, as in contemporaries such as Giacomo Manzù or Arturo Martini.
Marino Marini (Pistoia, 1901 – Viareggio, 1980) was one of the most important sculptors and draftsmen of the Italian twentieth century. A pupil at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, he achieved international fame for his equestrian figures and portraits with strong human and symbolic value. He exhibited at the Venice Biennales, the Rome Quadriennale, and in numerous international museums, consolidating his presence in the art market with works today highly sought after by collectors and institutions.
