A suggestive sculpture in patinated terracotta finished in bronze. It depicts a radiant portrayal of the god Neptune with mythological marine creatures.
Of monumental scope, in a rustic style, the work was probably placed in a garden.
The patina of time is fascinating, blending with cold-working oxidations to reproduce the look of aged bronze.
Neptune, the god of the sea, is a deity venerated in many localities of Magna Graecia, taken as a model by many artists of the nineteenth and eighteenth centuries with the rediscovery of ancient cities such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Paestum.
