Antique mid‑19th century console, veneered in mahogany, dating to circa 1840–1860, likely made in the Netherlands, in the Biedermeier style, 73 cm high, 57 cm wide, 34.5 cm deep, weighing about 2.2 kg, in fair condition with heavy wear and possible small parts missing.
Description from the seller
Very decorative 19th-century console, made of European wood (type unknown) veneered with thick mahogany veneer. The console dates from the mid-19th century and was probably made in the Netherlands (could also be Germany). It is in the Biedermeier style. A particularly nice feature is the mirrored veneer, which was masterfully done, especially in the Netherlands.
The console is about 73 cm high and the top measures 57 cm x 34.5 cm. The weight is well over 2 kg. It consists of two parts: a top with a thick edge and an S-shaped leg, which is connected to the top with two dowels. When the top is attached to the wall (via the existing holes, or with hooks that are mounted behind the top), the S-shaped leg that runs diagonally toward the wall provides the necessary stability. You can let the leg run all the way to the floor, but the table can also be mounted a bit above the floor.
The console looks reasonably good. The top is fairly undamaged, but along the edge there is a large blemish, and also the plinth under the top is missing a piece of veneer here and there. The leg still looks very good.
The wood of the console is probably polished (finished with polish, a traditional shellac-and-alcohol-based lacquer), and once polished will display a very beautiful mahogany shine.
The table thus has a number of major signs of use, which are easy to repair. Without those repairs the console is beautiful; with those repairs the piece becomes a jewel in any classical interior!
The console will be carefully packed in two parts and insured for shipment.
