Waterman - Ideal 92 - Fountain pen

The piece presents a very satisfactory overall condition, especially considering its age, preserving an attractive aesthetics and fully functional.

The body and cap in marbled celluloid maintain a beautiful pattern with good depth of color. Wear marks typical of the passage of time are visible, mainly micro-scratches on the surface and a slight loss of shine in some areas, with no cracks or visible deformations. The barrel engraving (“Waterman’s Ideal”) is present though softened, something common in pieces from this era.

The metal elements nickel-plated in gold, such as the clip, the ring, and the filling lever, retain a good overall presence. There is wear to the plating, especially on the clip, where use has dulled the original gold, without affecting its structural functionality.

The lever-fill system has been checked and works correctly, allowing efficient ink loading and immediate use.

The original Waterman’s Ideal 14K gold nib is in good condition, with no appreciable deformations, correct alignment and a smooth writing feel. It presents wear consistent with historical use, maintaining optimal performance.

Overall, it is an authentic and well-preserved example, with signs of use appropriate to its age, which do not compromise its aesthetics or its functionality, resulting in a very attractive piece for both collection and everyday use.

Conservation recommendations:
It is advisable to use high-quality fountain pen inks and avoid pigmented inks. In case of prolonged disuse, clean with warm water, dry carefully before storage, and keep in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently to preserve its proper functioning.
