About the estate
Mouton Cadet remains unwavering in its consistency. It is, of course, in no way comparable to Mouton Rothschild, of which it is not the second wine. But its roundness and suppleness attract the greatest number, not to mention the assurance of the know-how of a great house. Sold in millions of bottles around the world, MC is the most widely distributed brand on the planet. Mouton Cadet is a branded wine, the first of its kind imagined by the Rothschild family in 1930. That year, Baron Philippe de Rothschild decided to declassify his wine and market it under the name Mouton Cadet. The success was immediate. It was still a Pauillac at that time. But in the following years, grapes were scarce and supply had to be extended to other communes and vineyards. Mouton Cadet thus becomes a Bordeaux, produced every year.
Color Red
Style Dry
Region Bordeaux
Appellation Bordeaux
Bottle 75 cl
Quantity 3
Alcohol content 12%
Label condition NEW, Closed box / box kept in cellar
Grapes: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
Score: 87/100 (Gismondi on Wine)
1998 Vintage Tasted: Oct 2001
The Cadet rouge mixes grapes from Cotes Bourg, Cotes de Blaye, Cotes de Franc and Entre-Deux-Mers. A normal blend would feature about 55 percent merlot, 30 percent cabernet sauvignon and 15 percent cabernet franc. Only 10 percent of the wine selected blind from over 2000 samples makes its way to the Saint Laurent winery. Look for clean fruit flavours and medium intensity. Still young and will improve over the next eighteen months. (Anthony Gismondi).
