Description from the seller

Work title: Diḳduḳ leshon ha-ḳodesh, hoc est, Grammatica linguae sanctae institutio : cum vocum omnium anomalarum indice, & explicatione. Accedit ejusdem oratio habita, cum publicum docendi munus auspicaretur, A. 1720.

Rare, fascinating and cultured eighteenth-century edition printed in Padua in 1721 by the celebrated and esteemed printing house of the Seminary (near Giovanni Manfré).
The work is a fundamental and thorough grammar of the Hebrew language curated by the renowned teacher and theologian Giuseppe Pasini, at the time professor of Writing and Oriental Languages at the University of Turin. The text is structured in a scientific way for the study of sacred language and includes a precious and detailed explanatory index aimed at clarifying all the anomalies of Hebrew vocabulary and verbs.
The volume ends with the official Latin oration (Oratio) delivered by the author in 1720 on the occasion of the beginning of his public lecturing, performed under the royal auspice of Vittorio Amedeo. Since this is a text that integrates large sections in Hebrew, consultation and browsing of the related parts occur from right to left. The work is enriched inside by an elegant and crisp woodcut initial capital letter finely decorated at the beginning of the oration.

Lotto Conditions

Binding: Full contemporary rigid vellum binding from the XVIII century, structurally very solid, tightly bound and perfectly anchored to the body of the book. The spine bears the title and author handwritten in period ink ("Pasini - Gramm. Ebrea"), clearly legible. The vellum of the covers and spine is well stretched and shows a beautiful and genuine amber patina of the time, with very slight, physiological darkening due to dust and minimal superficial abrasions to the corners, which attest to its authenticity without compromising its integrity. Corners well preserved.
Interior: Pages in excellent general condition, fresh, crisp and with wide margins. The printed text appears with clear, clean and fully legible types. Only slight and natural browning and occasional foxing (oxidation spots) due to time are noted, localized mainly along the sheet edges and on the outer edges, entirely normal and legitimate for the watermark paper of early eighteenth century. Genuine copy, free from invasive restorations, tears, modern handwriting or missing text.
