Two silvered brass Modernista candelabra dating from the 1940s to the early 1950s, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
They are two silver-plated brass modernist candlesticks from the first half of the 20th century that very well sum up that transition between traditional metal craftsmanship and the pursuit of looser, more fluid and expressive lines that characterized modernization in its decorative branch. Here the silver-plated brass does not aim to be a solemn or monumental metal: it becomes a ductile material, almost drawn, that allows creating sinuous forms with a light elegance.
The structure of each candlestick starts from a round, simple yet sturdy base, acting as a support for the main gesture: two arms that rise and curve naturally, like metal stems that intertwine. That curve is the key to the design: it is not geometric or rigid, but organic, with a movement reminiscent of the stylized vegetal lines of modernism. The arms end in hexagonal platforms that hold the cups, a geometric detail that provides contrast and balance against the fluidity of the whole.
The silver-plated brass, with its soft patina, adds depth to the curves and enhances the play of light on the surfaces. It is not a cold shine: it is a warm silver, slightly aged, that speaks of decades of life and of interiors where these candlesticks served as decorative accents of refined taste.
They are pieces that combine movement, lightness and functionality, perfect for modernist, eclectic or contemporary environments that seek a historical touch without slipping into excessive ornamentation. Their presence is serene, elegant and very expressive.
Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
