Antique oval wall mirror in carved wood with gold leaf finish and a mirror glass, dating to circa 1850–1900, Italian origin from Firenze, Toscana, with external dimensions 106 cm high by 72 cm wide and 22 cm deep, inner opening 70 by 52 cm, featuring ornate carved decoration and a cherub motif in a gold finish.
Description from the seller
Impressive oval mirror in carved wood with gold leaf gilding from the 19th century, around 1890, of evident European manufacture and more precisely Italian in the vicinity of Florence:
The remarkable wooden sculpture topped by a splendid joyful cherub in the center, carved in wood, appears visually in excellent condition, albeit with a patina of time.
The finely crafted frame, carved and enriched with rich gold leaf gilding, presents a sumptuous decorative apparatus with vegetal/floricultural motifs, scrolls and tendrils.
The upper crest is dominated by the putto engaged in festive play with a floral garland in its hands.
Floral and leafy elements adorn the descending decorations of the crest.
The lower part, in turn, harmoniously repeats the decorative motif, creating balance between the upper ornament and the bottom of the frame.
The frame is of notable value and great visual impact also due to its size.
The mirror appears to suit the frame, with workmanship more inclined toward a younger period.
Height 106 cm (1 m 06 cm)
Width: 72 cm
