Description from the seller
Lot of 2 boxes in precious wood with marquetry – Early 20th century and 1970s/1980s
Description
Splendid lot consisting of two elegant boxes in precious woods, united by the quality of the marquetry and refined geometric inlay work, but belonging to two different eras: one dating to the early decades of the 20th century and the other made in the 1970s/1980s.
The early 1900s box features a lid enhanced by a refined geometric inlay obtained by juxtaposing woods of different tones, capable of creating an elegant chromatic game. Its balanced proportions, solid craftsmanship, and pleasant original patina make it a piece of great charm, ideal as a jewelry box, document box, or refined decorative accessory.
The second box, dating to the 1970s/1980s, interprets Italian cabinetmaking tradition with a refined central star motif created through contrasting wood inlays. The interior is particularly functional thanks to a practical insert with modular dividers that can be moved to create compartments of different sizes or removed to obtain a single wide cavity. Another premium detail is the metal lever on the bottom, visible in the photographs, which allows the lid to be locked in the closed position.
Both boxes feature natural grain patterns of great elegance, precise artisanal work, and high-quality finishes. They are perfectly suitable as jewelry boxes, storage for watches, coins, cufflinks, letters, documents, small collectibles, or simply as refined decorative pieces.
Overall condition is very good. Both pieces are solid and well preserved, showing only slight signs of aging and use, perfectly consistent with their age and visible in the photographs.
Box dimensions (early 20th century): 39 × 24 × 10 cm.
Box dimensions (1970s/1980s): 32.5 × 23 × 11.5 cm.
Our interior designer/architect recommends: this lot represents an ideal solution for furnishing a study, a library, an entrance console, or a stylish living room. Placed together or in different rooms, the two boxes speak to each other through their shared artisanal quality and the beauty of the inlays, lending character, warmth, and sophistication to the spaces.
